Changes for Fall 2020-Spring 2021

Due to COVID-19, we have to make some changes to our usual club activities. We still have many informational and helpful events planned for you all - General Meetings, Outreach events, and Social activities. Hopefully we can have all the usual activities and events that ACS does during the Spring semester!
  • All the General meetings will be online.
  • No Membership Dues.
  • Cancelled events (for the Fall semester): 
    • Notebook Sales
    • Foot ball Game Ushering
    • Conference 
    • Committee Meetings
  • We will still have Outreach activities and social activities!

General Meetings for​ Spring 2021

At most meetings, a Guest Speaker will discuss their work in chemistry, either in industry or research. All the meetings are online.
Time: Every other Wednesdays 5pm - 6pm

    • Dr. David Allen will be talking about Natural gas production, Methane emissions and climate: Driving Natural Gas Systems to Reduced Green house Gas Emissions and Project Astra.

  • February 24th
    • Dr. Andreas Matouschek, an associate dean of and core facilities director of the CNS at the UT Austin, will be giving a talk about his research, which is in the biochemistry and proteasomes.

  • March 10th
    • Dr. Jose Alvarado, an associate professor in Physics department at the UT Austin, will be joining us during our meeting. His research is in uncovering the mechanical design principles of biological systems by building and researching physical model systems in the lab. The current topics of his research include the mechanics of hairy surfaces immersed in fluids, as well as active gels of the muscle proteins actin and myosin.

  • March 24th
    • Dr. Jennifer Maynard will be talking about her research covering developing protein therapeutics and vaccines to address unmet medical needs in infectious diseases.

  • April 7th
    • Dr. Mark Raizen, a Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Physics and Pediatrics, is going to be presenting during our meeting! His research is in comprehensive control of atomic and molecular motion, applications to new materials and processes, optical trapping and cooling of glass microspheres.
